FAQ
Who is this retreat for?
This journey is for sincere seekers drawn to yoga as a living tradition — whether you are a dedicated practitioner, teacher, or simply feeling called to experience yoga at its source. You do not need to be “advanced,” only open, curious, and willing to slow down.
Do I need prior yoga experience?
No. All practices are guided and accessible, with options to meet you where you are. The retreat emphasizes presence, devotion, and embodied inquiry rather than physical performance.
What is the style of yoga taught?
The practices are rooted in traditional yogic teachings and sadhana, weaving together asana, pranayama, meditation, mantra, Yoga Nidra, and contemplative inquiry. The focus is on yoga as a lived and integrated path.
What will our days look like?
Each day includes morning practice, nourishing meals, time for rest or reflection, and curated experiences such as sacred site visits, workshops, or pilgrimages. During the retreat phase in Tiruvannamalai, days follow a gentle rhythm of practice, study, sangha, and silence.
Is this retreat physically demanding?
Practices are supportive rather than strenuous. Some excursions (such as cave visits or Girivalam around Arunachala) involve walking, but participation is always optional. You are encouraged to honor your body and personal rhythm.
What accommodations are like?
You’ll stay in comfortable, thoughtfully chosen private or shared rooms designed to support rest and integration. Accommodations are clean, peaceful, and well-suited to retreat life rather than luxury tourism. Final room options and pricing will be shared soon.
What kind of food is provided?
All meals are included and are sattvic, nourishing, and prepared with locally sourced ingredients. Food is vegetarian, wholesome, and supportive of yogic practice. Dietary needs can be accommodated with advance notice.
Is Ayurveda mandatory?
No. Ayurvedic consultations and treatments are included as an option to support rest and healing, but participation is entirely optional. You may choose to receive treatments, attend workshops, or simply rest during those times.
Is India safe for travel?
Yes. South India is known for its spiritual culture, hospitality, and warmth. We travel intentionally, with trusted local partners, guided excursions, and group support throughout the journey.
Will there be free time?
Yes. While the journey is thoughtfully curated, there is spaciousness built in for rest, journaling, quiet walks, and personal reflection. Nothing is compulsory — you are invited, not required.
What is included in the price?
The retreat is all-inclusive from arrival in India and includes:
- Accommodation during the retreat phase
- Daily yoga, meditation, and sadhana
- All meals during the retreat
- Sacred site visits and pilgrimages
- Ayurvedic consultation and treatments
- All Transfers from Chennai starting the 16th of September towards all retreat destinations (Auroville, Tiruvanamalai, & excursions)
- On-the-ground guidance and support
Flights, travel insurance, and personal expenses are not included.
How do I get there?
The nearest international airport is Chennai (MAA). Airport transfers are included from Chennai. If arriving via Bengaluru, transfers can be arranged for an additional fee.
What should I pack?
Light, breathable clothing suitable for yoga and warm weather, modest attire for temples, comfortable walking shoes, a reusable water bottle, and any personal medications. A detailed packing guide will be provided after registration.
Is this a religious retreat?
This journey is spiritual, not religious. While we visit temples and sacred sites, the emphasis is on direct experience, presence, and inner inquiry rather than belief or doctrine.
How many participants will there be?
Group size is intentionally kept small to preserve intimacy, depth, and personal attention.
Can I come alone?
Yes — many participants travel solo. This journey often becomes a meaningful shared experience and supportive sangha.
What if I need rest or feel overwhelmed?
You are always encouraged to listen to your body and nervous system. Time and space for rest, integration, and grounding are built into the retreat, and support is available throughout.
How do I join the waitlist or reserve a space?
You can join the waitlist directly through the website. Once registration opens, waitlist participants will be the first to receive full details and booking access.
Payment & Cancellation Policy
A $500 USD non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your space on the TRU Yoga India Yatra. The remaining balance is due 60 days prior to the retreat start date. Participants may also choose to pay in full at the time of registration.
Due to the nature of international travel and advance commitments with retreat centers, accommodations, and local partners, the deposit is non-refundable.
Cancellations made more than 60 days prior to the retreat start date will receive a refund of any payments made minus the $500 deposit.
Cancellations made within 60 days of the retreat start date are non-refundable, unless the space can be filled by another participant, in which case a refund (minus the deposit and any unrecoverable costs) may be issued at our discretion.
We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance to protect against unforeseen circumstances.
